Threat describes the amount of hate an action generates on it's target. Abilities that inflict damage always generate threat proportional to the amount of damage dealt.
+15 Defense is quite substantial, +30 (with Master Archer) is exceptional. This talent significantly increases the archer's survival chances when engaging a larger number of ranged foes or being cornered in melee.
