Strength

Strength measures a character's physical prowess, and directly affects the damage a character deals in physical combat. It also contributes to the accuracy of melee attacks, is used in intimidate dialogue options and increases the difficulty for enemies to resist the effects of certain Weapon Talents.

Various weapons and armor require a minimum amount of Strength to equip and many Weapon Talents have a Strength requirement that needs to be satisfied before they can be learned.

Effects

  • Each point of Strength above 10 adds +0.5 Attack Attack with all weapons.
  • Each point of Strength increases the difficulty for enemies to resist the effects of many physical weapon talents.
  • Each point of Strength adds a +1.0 bonus to Coercion checks that are based on intimidating people.
  • Each point of Strength above 10 adds 0.5 points to a characters Physical Resistance.
  • Strength does not affect the damage dealt by Crossbow.

Role

Strength is a primary attribute for the Warrior class, as it provides a measurable increase in overall damage and Attack. High Strength is also important for being able to equip many of the best Weapon and Armor pieces in the game.

Rogues benefit from strength to a lesser degree, especially if they have the Lethality talent which allows them to replace Strength for Cunning for the purpose of calculating damage bonus. Note that they still need some Strength to wear higher level weapons and armor.

Mages can regard Strength as a nonessential attribute unless they wish to wield melee weapons more effectively or equip more powerful armor. Even then, a Mage interested in close quarter combat might be better served with training in the Arcane Warrior specialization, which enables them to use their Magic attribute to satisfy equipment strength requirements.
