Leliana

Leliana is a rogue with the bard specialization.

Leliana is found in the Tavern in the village of Lothering in the first few hours of the game. When the player enters the tavern, a cutscene will play that introduces her and that will end with the option to recruit her for the player's cause.

If the player rejects her at this point, she will offer her services one more time when the party proceeds to leave Lothering. If the player rejects again and leaves Lothering, his window for recruiting Leliana is closed as the village is overrun by Darkspawn shortly thereafter, leaving her fate unclear.

• Leliana is a potential romance for male and female players.
• Leliana is sympathetic to Zevran and supports him being recruited.
• Leliana feels sorry for Sten and will plead for him to be released into the party's custody at the Revered Mother in Lothering if she is in the party, saving the player 5 gold.
• Leliana will be jealous if the player starts a relationship with Morrigan, eventually forcing him to choose.

There is a little roadblock with Leliana's plot where some of her dialog options related to her personal story become unavailable if the player buys her trust using a lot of gifts and never actually invests the time to talk to here.

Some say it's a bug, other's claim women are complicated. Who knows. The important part is, you can do something to fix it:

Note that this only works in the case where Leliana cares for you, but you have not heard her talk about a woman named Marjolaine. I won't spoil it more than that. And will try to keep the steps low-spoiler. ¹⁾

1) Sadly, you need to break up with her. Let her down easy, don't make her angry enough to leave the party.
2) This should open up the player option: “I hear, sometimes, in Orlais the minstrels are spies.”
3) If her approval is still high, later on returning to the camp she will open with “I lied to you, you know…?”
4) Travel with her in your party. You will eventually be ambushed in something related to her.
5) Follow the lead to Denerim. Resolve!
6) Talk in camp, and work through her reactions. Eventually you'll see the player option: “Are you feeling any better about Marjolaine?”
7) There, you want to note that “she was special to you, wasn't she?”
If you follow that up with “I hope one day I can be that special to you….”
