This page shares tactics and tips on defeating some of Dragon Age's Boss monsters.

Really Stuck at a battle ?
Dragon Age's difficulty settings can be changed on the fly, even in the midst of battle from the game's option menu.
If you're really stuck, just change the difficulty for one battle and then go back after-wards.

Ogre (Tower of Ishal)

The first boss the player encounters, the Ogre in the Tower of Ishal poses the first real challenge in the game.

The party makeup at this point consists of the Player character, Alistair, a nameless towerguard and a nameless soldier. If the player is not a Mage, the solider is subsituted for a nameless Circle Mage.

Abilities and Weaknesses

The Ogre is capable of dealing massive damage when attacking directly, but also has some slightly less powerful area of effect slam attacks.

Slam A powerful physical attack causing massive damage to a single target.
Stomp Area of Effect attack damaging and pushing back everyone within 3 meters.
Kick Powerful physical attack only used against enemies located in his back.
Charge The ogre charges a target, impaling it with his horns, dealing a lot of damage and pushing them over.
Grab The gore grabs the target, squeezing and pummeling it with his fists, usually resulting in their untimely demise.
This is by far the most devastating attack in the Ogre's arsenal.

Preparation

There is no way to sneak up on the ogre as a cutscene triggers when the player open the door. It is recommended to

  • Use any kind of poisons, flaming weapons spells.
  • There is no point to protect against magic, fire or other elemental damage, the ogre just deals raw physical damage.
